About Visual Arts 2025
The exhibitions at Esplanade's visual arts spaces—Jendela (Visual Arts Space), Esplanade Concourse, Esplanade Tunnel and Esplanade Community Wall—present commissioned site-specific works that undergird the centre's commitment to nurturing new work and supporting the development of long-standing projects by Singapore and Southeast Asian artists.
Presented alongside the exhibitions are companion programmes like talks, guided tours and workshops, and interviews with artists on Esplanade Offstage that endeavour to lend insight to the works and artistic practices.
Engage with commissioned works by Singaporean artists across four exhibitions around Esplanade.
At Jendela (Visual Arts Space), My Grandfather’s Road – Ten Year Series 2015–2025 by Neo Kim Seng reflects on a decade of the project through photographs, artefacts, printed texts, performance documentation, a video installation (Secret Places), and new photomontages. The work continues to uncover the social history of everyday individuals who shape our collective memory.
Manners Manners by Quek See Yee transforms foraged plants into sculptural forms. Honouring their natural resilience, her work in the Esplanade Tunnel invites reflection on the enduring bond between humans and the environment, and the overlooked materials that carry stories of the past.
Explore the quiet passing of time through subtle colour shifts and spatial forms with Open Plane at the Esplanade Community Wall. Horizon lines and mirrored surfaces create a visual rhythm, presented in prints on aluminium and framed works. The use of layering and repetition by Liu Liling slows the photographic process, challenging traditional notions of time and perception.
Responding to Singapore’s ever-evolving built environment, Breath of the Land《呼吸之地》by Lim Soo Ngee and Yang Jie at the Esplanade Concourse explores themes of belonging, utility and shared memories embedded in the city’s urban landscape.
